edificio polifunzionale2

The past half-century witnessed a multitude of paradigm shifts that touch on everything from technological innovation to global warming, increased mobility to demographic swings. Mass housing solutions of the postwar period were proven incompatible with the autonomy of the contemporary household. Current modes of dwelling design now face the challenge of responding to this new world:one of constant change, aging populations, dense urban environments, virtual communication networks, fast-paced development and health conscious inhabitants.
The thrust of the proposed residential development is to explore non-traditional, innovative dwellings prototypes. These designs are distinguished due to their conceptual approach to use/function by their occupants in response to recent socio-demographic changes, new production methods, energy and resource efficiency, site considerations and landscaping alternatives.

The project aims to create an autonomous neighborhood, with a strong identity, that is able to connect to different parts of the city through smart transit links. In order to produce an innovative and appealing ecosystem for homeowners and businesses alike, the main focuses will be on the following principles: Open Building — An adaptable house is one that accommodates change without the need for demolition or substantial modification of the existing structure and services.
Energy Efficiency — South-facing lots take advantage of solar gain with triple glazed windows for maximum thermal insulation.
Onsite Water Management — Efficient fixtures and strategies for the treatment and re-use of grey water, as well as natural treatment and delivery mechanisms for rainwater via horizontal flow constructed wetlands.
Low-impact materials—Building materials should be selected from renewable or recycled sources within 60 km of the site to minimize the ecological footprint.
Recycling Incentives—Refuse-collection facilities are designed to support recycling.
Car Sharing — Through a partnership with leading car-sharing operators, residents are encouraged to use this environment friendly alternative to car ownership; an on-site selection of vehicles will be available for use through a collaboration with a major car producer.
Eco-Friendly Transit Incentives—Electric and LPG cars are given priority. Parking stalls will be equipped with electric charging station.
Shared Community Spaces – A higher quality of life, with a strong sense of community obtained through convivial open spaces, playgrounds, parks, and the Civic Centre hosting community programs. (…)
